Even though there might be small differences, CPI and CPM are never looked as separate wings by most of us in the country. And probably that’s the reason why they are addressed together as Left parties. Despite their Communist ideologies and their universal fight to overthrow problems, the distance between the two parties seem to be growing with each passing day.

The difference can presumably witnessed by even a common man at least during elections and the election campaigns.  The CPI and CPM declared that they were going to contest the by-polls to the 18 assembly constituencies recently.

While the CPI has reportedly come to a conclusion of contesting the elections without any alliance, CPM was said to be in a dilemma whether to contest alone or come to an understanding with CPI. It is however, saying a big no, to ally with the Telugu Desam Party( TDP). To discuss the same, CPM will hold state-level internal meet on Wednesday and Thursday, CPI is scheduled to hold its party meet on Thursday.

Notably, CPI declared that it would ally with TDP if they come to an understanding over seats.  But then will red alliance with yellow turn fruitful to both parties is a big question as the grand alliance comprising Left parties, TRS and TDP failed to appeal the people and eventually couldn’t form the government in 2009.  All in all, AP state politics turned interesting ahead of by-polls.
