The 16th century Basilica of Bom Jesus in Goa priest said on Wednesday brought into prominence the fact to put a strict line of order against the distastefully dressed visitors to the church which happens to be a compulsion on most tourists detailed plan for a journey, while they will now be offered shawls to cover themselves up before they enter the shrine.
Fr. Savio Barretto, rector of the church, expressed that they had been receiving complaints that tourists were not dressing properly for the church due to the fact many people seems to have felt offended by it. That was perhaps the crucial reason for them to take this step.
Furthermore, the church authorities during last year, was known to have had put up signboards and pursue help from guides to make sure that tourists were appropriately dressed when they visited the baroque-style church which has been approved by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) as a world heritage site.
Nevertheless, as Barretto added that the efforts seems to have not succeeded with much difference and that's something being crucial have now resulted them to have volunteers who will be responsible to ask those inappropriately dressed to cover themselves with shawls, which they will provide, necessarily have to be returned to the volunteers after completion of the tour to the Church. The complaint over distastefully clothing was common both with women and men as they were found here wearing beachwear. They would have to wear the shawl too.
Now, this is not just one due to the fact that even temples in Goa, particularly those in the temple town of Ponda, known to have put up signboards requesting information to visitors to visit the temple wearing decent dresses. They must be able to understand the difference between a beach and a holy shrine if not they will be restricted inside the temple.
The visitors/ tourists must be able to grasp the significance of visiting a holy shrine and behave sensibly.
Every place has it's own value and mannerism and no one should ignore them or else it results to become disgraceful!
