Indian honored for pioneering the USB technology

An Indian who was an integral part of the Intel team, based in US primarily was honored with the European Inventor Award 2013 by the European Patent Office. Ajay Bhatt the leader of the team played a monumental role in developing what is today the most indispensable technological advance of all the decade, the USB technology. The Universal Serial Bus is today found on almost all the computer related devices that you use. This invention has changed the face of the silicon chips.

The European Patent Office announced the winners of the European Inventor Award 2013, which honours outstanding inventors for their contribution to social, economic and technological progress. Ajay V Bhatt-led team, comprising of Bala Sudarshan Cadambi, Jeff Morriss, Shaun Knoll, Shelagh Callahan of the United States won the award for inventors from Non-European Countries, for creating and developing USB technology.

The 56 year old is an Indian-American originally from Vadodara. He later moved to New York for his masters and joined Intel in 1990. His inventions have received at least 31 US patents.

The 2013 awards were presented in five categories, in addition to the Popular Prize for the first time.
