The "ragging" menace continues in the country as another teen attempts suicide after being harried by her peers.
Pranali Rahane, a 19-year-old intern at Bosch Limited, apparently slashed her wrist and hanged herself on Monday morning, authorities confirmed. She was rushed to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Nashik police have arrested her 10 co-trainees, including four girls, also interns at Bosch Limited, for abetting the suicide. The accused, all in the age group of 18-19 years, have been identified as - Bhooshan Paradeshi, Abhijit Bhor, Vishal Korade, Amit Pawar, Swapnil Sonawane, Shweta Shinde, Tejaswini Birari, Shubhada Kajale, Neha Sonawane and Harshal Patil.
A newspaper has quoted Pranali's father Pradeep as saying: "Pranali was recently selected to study at Bosch's headquarters in Germany. A few of her classmates who failed to clear the test would occasionally rag her."
The girl left a note which purportedly mentioned that she was harassed and ragged by her colleagues which prompted her to take the extreme step. The note was handed over to the police by the deceased's father.
The accused have been booked under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the IPC and Section 4 of the Maharashtra Ragging Act and remanded in police custody till September 07.
The accused have been taken in remand till September 7.
