A-16-year-old juvenile has been charged with first-degree murder for barbarously beating his mother to death at their Mesa home. The juvenile will be tried in an adult court.
A massive bond of $1 million has been set for the main accused Michael Roy Helms and his 17-year-old accomplice and friend Christian Lee Blakely.
Police reports reveal that the juvenile criminal brutally battered his mother, 36-year-old Tina Helms Spencer, with a frying pan and a hammer before strangulating her. Later, he dragged her dead body to a shed outside the house, cleaned up the crime area and waited for his stepdad to arrive.
When the man came in, he attacked him with a frying pan and tried to choke him to death as well. The man suffered grave injuries, but somehow managed to escape and informed the authorities.
Helms fled the crime scene,, but was later caught by police.
He admitted his crime and told that he had gotten into some deep mess at home and hence decided to kill both his parents.
His friend Blakely “stood in dark and watched” as he beat his mom to death and later helped him relocate the dead body and clean the area of crime.
The heinous incident took place on Saturday morning at their home situated between east Juanita Avenue and Gilbert Road.
