A Tempe teenage girl was killed after being shot in the face "accidentally" by a family member, Tempe police said.
The 16-year-old girl was accidentally shot around 9:30 p.m., when a family member was either cleaning or handling the gun at an apartment complex near Rural Road and University Drive.
According to a Tempe police spokesman, Sgt. Damon DeSpain, the relative was an in-law to the 16-year-old. The gunshot victim was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, where she pronounced dead, DeSpain said.
The incident is investigating by the police, but DeSpain said the shooting appeared to be an accident.
