A Phoenix man was shot and left with life-threatening injuries, when gunshots erupted during a card game in the city, Phoenix police said.
According to the Phoenix police, they are looking for two suspects. The card game may be connected to an illegal gambling ring, police said. The game was took place in an abandoned building that was once a hookah lounge near 32nd Street and Cactus Road.
AZCentral reported, a Phoenix police spokesman, Sgt. Vince Lewis, said that, a friend of the gunshot victim called 911 at 8 p.m. to report an armed robbery. The caller said his friend was shot about 10 minutes before.
Maggie Limbeck works at Eddie's Tavern, right next to the former hookah lounge, said that, "Violence is not part of our neighborhood." "We have neighbors that always watch everything and we have good, good people around us. This is very unusual for our side of town," she said.
"It's a little scary because you don't know where they (the shooters) went and where they're looking around, but there's a lot of people here looking out. We watch each other's backs, so we're OK," Limbeck said.
