The Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is campaigning in the beating red heart of the traditionally pro-GOP state, Yavapai County. This is his sixth visit to Arizona as a presidential candidate. Trump most recently was in Phoenix on August 31.
Five weeks ahead the Election day and just a little over a week before early voting starts in Arizona, Trump took the move to focus on the Republican-dominated region. The move suggests a strategy to energize the party's base in a state where Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton has been competitive.
Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia's Center for Politics, said that, "He needs a good turnout." "Arizona is not a given for him. Trump wants to keep his troops charged up."
The Trump's rally is scheduled to be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the 5,100- to 6,200-capacity Prescott Valley Event Center in Prescott Valley. The area is represented in Congress by conservative Republican Paul Gosar.
It is the same venue, previously known as Tim's Toyota Center, where Vice President Joe Biden in 2013 spoke at a memorial service for the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots.
"That's where his votes are. Look, just as it's impossible to shake Trump supporters, it's impossible for him to attract people who aren't already with him," Sabato said.
His running mate, Indiana Governor Mike Pence has appeared three times in Arizona, including once with Trump, most recently in Mesa, another reliably conservative part of Maricopa County that has a significant Mormon population.
AZCentral reported, Nathan Gonzales, the political analyst, said that, "Traditional candidates and campaigns go to swing states and swing areas so that they not only get attention but get information from people who attend in order to mobilize them later."
"But because the Trump campaign is really not interested in having their own get-out-the-vote effort, it really doesn't matter where they have the rally, as long as there's a television camera there."
