After Medical Marijuana had been legalized in states, it is one of the fastest growing industries across the country and especially in Arizona.
According to the latest numbers from the Arizona Department of Health Services, there are more card holders than ever before and people are using more marijuana than ever before.
All of it comes on the heels of an election that saw voters narrowly reject an effort to legalize recreational use of marijuana in the state
Lilach Mazor Power of Giving Tress Wellness said that she thinks lots of people were waiting to see if it was going to pass, it was a lot easier and she is going to try cannabis for whatever medical conditions.
Mazor Power is the managing director of the ‘Giving Tree Wellness Center’ and she is a true believer in the medical purpose of cannabis. Power said when people realized Prop 205 was not going to pass; her phones immediately began to ring.
“Prop 205 would have legally allowed anyone over the age of 21 to consume marijuana recreational.”
She saw that day, how many calls her front desk received, people who were asking how they can get a card and details regarding it.
That interest helped fuel marijuana profits in December 2016 to their highest levels all year.
Last year in Arizona 29 tons of marijuana was consumed, which was more than double the amount from 2015.
The number of people holding cards also increased, with more than 114,000 people are legally allowed to use marijuana in Arizona
All of that green is translating into more green for the state.
Nearly $280 million was generated from the sale of medicinal marijuana with about $30 million of it translated into tax revenue for Arizona programs.
Some of the experts have predicted that those numbers could easily triple if Arizona joins other states and legalize recreational marijuana use.
