With spike in the number of COVID-19 cases, theatres are hardly to reopen in anytime soon. Mukesh Bhatt’s most anticipated film Sadak-2 joins the list of OTT releases this year.
Produced by Vishesh films and Fox Star studios, Sadak-2 features Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt. The film is directed by veteran Mahesh Bhatt, father of Alia.
The uncertainty of theatres beginning anytime in the near future due to the coronavirus pandemic has let the makers of the film head for a digital release.
“In this situation, do you think theatres will open? And if they do and Sadak 2 is released, will people go watch it? Today, life is important”, said Producer Mukesh Bhatt to media.
He also added that the trend of digital releases of cinemas is only temporary as people wish to see their stars on big screen itself.
Mukesh bhatt also mentioned that some part of the shooting is still left and they would resume it from July.
Sadak 2 is the sequel to the Sanjay dutt-Pooja Bhatt’s film Sadak which has gained huge applause from the audience when released in 1991.
Apparently, Sadak 2 is the most ambitious project of the Bhatt family but they say they have no option but to release their film on digital medium.
The film is the latest addition to the growing list of OTT releases this year. COVID-19 has brought the entertainment industry to a grinding halt as there are no shootings going on since March this year.
However, Unlock 1.0 has made television industry to get back on track with their shootings. Recently, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar tweeted saying he has embarked on shooting for his upcoming film.
Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana’s film ‘Gulabo Sitabo’ was the big hindi film to be released on OTT. The film was directed by Shoojit Sircar and was released on Amazon Prime video earlier this June.
Sushant Singh Rajput’s tragic death has taken the country into mourning. Meanwhile, Karan Johar and Alia Bhatt are receiving criticism over Nepotism alleging that lack of film chances made Sushant to kill himself. Both of them have lost about 5,00,000 followers on their Instagram accounts.
Mahesh Bhatt has also fallen into the trap of criticism after photos of him with Rhea Chakraborthy are leaked on internet. Allegedly, Mahesh Bhatt earlier warned Sushant that he may die of suicide one day.
