Amazon founder Jeff Bezos sold more than $3 billion in Amazon stock, according to a regulatory filing Friday. That would amount to more than $13 billion in total Amazon stock sales in 2024. Bezos sold more than 16 million shares, bringing Amazon's stock back to nearly $200 per share, a level it reached in July when Bezos sold shares. That was the highest since Amazon debuted on the NASDAQ in 1997, Geek Wire reports. The sale follows Amazon's strong third-quarter earnings report that beat expectations. With a net worth of $222 billion, Bezos is the second-richest person on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, with an annual income of $42.8 billion thanks to the performance of Amazon stock. Elon Musk remains at the top. In February, Bezos owned about 10.8% of Amazon's outstanding shares.

In separate news, Bezos, the owner of The Washington Post, commented on the newspaper's recent decision to stop endorsing presidential candidates, addressing a "lack of trust" in the media industry. In an article published on the Post website, Bezos said, “Most people think the media is biased. Anyone who does not see this is not paying attention to reality. He clarified that the Post's decision had nothing to do with the meeting that took place on the same day between former President Donald Trump and the leaders of one of Bezos' companies, Blue Origin. According to Bezos, the meeting was arranged quickly and without his knowledge. "I sighed when I heard about this, because I knew it would give a boost to those who want to present this as something other than a principled solution," he wrote.
