Meal is incomplete without dal in Indian homes. Instead of preparing similar types of dal every time, try out this different katta meetha Gujarati dal. For sure this will become your regular dish in your meal. Gujarati dal made up of arhar dal. This can be best served along with steamed rice or hot rotis.
Ingredients required for Gujarati dal recipe
For pressure cooking the dal:
arhar dal: ¾ cup
water: 2.5 cup
Other ingredients
tomato chopped: 1
ginger green chili paste: 1 tsp
turmeric powder/haldi powder: ½ tsp
coriander powder/dhania powder: ½ tsp
cumin powder/jeera powder: ½ tsp
red chili powder/lal mirch powder: ½ tsp
dried kokums: 3
water: 1.5 to 2 cups
organic powdered jaggery powder or grated jiggery: 1.5 to 2 tbsp
chopped coriander leaves/dhania patta: 1 tbsp
salt
For tempering/tadka:
ghee or oil: 2 tbsp
mustard seeds/rai: ½ tsp
cumin seeds/sabut jeera: ½ tsp
fenugreek seeds/sabut methi: ¼ tsp
2 to 3 small dry red
curry leaves/kadi patta: 8 to 10
pinch of asafoetida/hing; 3 to 4 cloves; 1 inch cinnamon
Preparation method of Gujarati dal recipe
Pressure cook the rinsed dal with water for 5 minutes. Maas the dal well with whisk and add green chili-ginger paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander-cumin powder, salt, jiggery, tomato and kokums. Stir well and add water. Place dal on sim for 10 minutes. Form tempering, heat oil or ghee, in a small pan, add mustard seeds, add cumin, add dry chilies, cloves, curry leaves, cinnamon, asafoetida and fenugreek seeds. Stir for few seconds. Pour the tempering on the dal that is simmering. Switch off the flame, add coriander leaves.
