Madurai Mayor, V.V.Rajan Chellappa of the AIADMK along with large number of men and women conducted a special puja on the sprawling Tamukkam Ground on Wednesday.
The ‘Sri Satha Chandi Mahayagam’ commenced with the slogan, ‘All for our Amma’s wellness and her return as Chief Minister,’ coinciding with her birth star, Maham .
Giving details on the puja, Mr. Chellappa said that 108 homa kundams, specially made for puja were used and 150 Sivacharayas from major temples of the state conducted the puja, led by the head priest of Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple. Chanting of mantras and Vedic hymns will continue till Thursday.
“By performing the Chandi yagam at a single location on a large scale with 108 homa kundams, it is a belief that all wishes will be fulfilled,” a Sivacharya said.
Apart from praying for good health and long life of party supremo Jayalalithaa, the AIADMK cadres have been performing pujas across the State.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Paneerselvam’s son, Electricity Minister Natham R. Viswanathan, Cooperation Minister Sellur K. Raju, MLAs, MPs and councilors were among those who attended the puja.
Earlier in the day, 10,000 women had offered pongal at the Mariamman Temple near the Teppakulam in the city.
Former DMK MLA V. Velusamy said the State government had forgotten to perform its duties to people. All the Ministers and MLAs were either in temples offering pujas or distributing ‘biriyani’ for the welfare of their leader.
It's ridiculous to see the ministers spending such a big amount for a purpose that is not for the welfare of the common man, instead for the well being and return of AIADMK ex-chief J.Jayalalitha to power. The ministers are appointed to see the welfare of peoples; instead they are performing a grand puja for someone who is convicted.
