A non-profit volunteer umbrella organization, India Association of Phoenix represents all sister organizations and non-profit organizations of the Indian community in the State of Arizona. The organization is setting a stage for a huge event named ‘Discover India 2015’ scheduled on 1 November 2015. The event is to be graced by popular artists, and famous personalities. Artists display Indian art at the event, which would even host several other cultural programs. One of the renowned artists to grace the event is Dr Rewa Natu.
Classical Music Lec-Dem by Dr Rewa Natu
Dr. Rewa Natu is a Hindustani classical vocalist, devotional singer, Singer (Natya Sangeet). Her inspiration and initiation towards classical music is her father Pandit Vinayak Phatak, who is a renowned tabla artist. At the age of twelve, Rewa started learning music from late Shri. Dattopant Agashebua of Gwalior Gharana.
Late Pandit Sharad Gokhale and Dr. Digvijay Vaidya later groomed her further. Dr Rewa Natu got her master’s degree in music from the SNDT University, Pune. The Hindustani classical vocalist who is a regular performer at All India Radio, had also given several performances all through India and abroad. She was fortunate enough to take guidance form Vidushi Dr. Veena Sahasrabuddhe, while she was studying at SNDT University. Her doctoral research (Sangeetaacharya) was completed under Dr. Digvijay Vaidya, and finished Sangeetaacharya from the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya. Imbibing the embodiment of all her Gurus, Rewa has her own style that is distinctive.
The singer was trained on many aspects of taals in addition to their application in Bandishes. Rewa presents khyaal singing and even allied forms like thumris, tarana. In addition, semi classical forms are presented by her like bhajans and Natyageets.
Thematic programs were composed by her like ‘Shyam Ghana Chayyo’ and ‘Shakti’. The artist performs semi classical and classical music forms in such programs related to the themes and they receive huge applause from the masses as well.
Awards and Achievements of Dr Rewa Natu
Dr Rewa Natu received appreciation from former PM Hon. Late Shri. P. V. Narsimha Rao. The Hindustani classical vocalist who stood first in the All India Radio’s national level competition received the National Scholarship for Classical Music. In 1994, she earned Tamhankar Scholarship from Gaanvardhan, Pune.
