The Indian cricket board has named Rahul Johri as its first chief executive officer, effective 1 June 2016. He will be reporting to the BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur and is responsible for “smooth functioning of operations, stakeholder management and building robust strategies for promoting of sport.”

In 2013, Mr Johri had won the ‘CEO of the year’ award at the Broadcasting India awards. He served as the general manager and executive vice-president for South Asia at Discovery Networks Asia Pacific.

The recommendation for the appointment of CEO by Lodha committee was nominated by the Supreme Court in January 2016. Even the structure was detailed out. “There would be a maximum of six managers to assist the CEO who would have expertise primarily in the streams of Operations, Finance, Technical, Compliance (legal), Human Resources and Media. The CEO would be on contract with the BCCI and have a fixed tenure of five years (unless the contract is terminated by mutual agreement or by a 3 months’ notice by either party), whereas the Managers will be career employees.”

As per BCCI, the appointment for the posts of CEO and CFO was part of the ‘Project Transformation’ that was initiated for the improvement of governance.

Johri is even an Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) treasurer and board member. He is a member of Media & Entertainment Division of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the media and entertainment committee of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and member.
