England batsman Kevin Pietersen, who is playing for Delhi Dare Devils in the current season of IPL, has expressed grief over the negative publicity of the Indian Premier League in the UK media. When IPL was started off in 2008, it was hailed by almost all countries and most of them enjoyed as international cricketers came together to play shortform cricket but it failed to win the hearts of cricket fans in Britain, he added.
Kevin Pietersen has also said that jealousy could be one of the reasons as to why IPL was not welcomed by UK. Meanwhile, Kevin happens to be the only England cricketer who is playing IPL. Addressing the media, Kevin said that he consider himself very unfortunate for playing IPL. It would not only benefit the team next time when England tours India but to him also as he got a chance to hone his batting skills.
This star cricketer made these comments in the wake of a magazine’s statement that blamed T20s for Team India’s failure at eight matches in England and Australia. The issue has also carried lines “India, your sport needs you.”
Kevin Pietersen, while subtly telling that IPL helped him, has straight away said that people are crying foul due to jealousy. (Phani)
