Though the scores were low by both the sides the match on Wednesday between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Kings XI Punjab (KP) was quite interesting. The match played for the Indian Premier League at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali, was an interesting one. The highlight was the attack was led from the front by the touring captain Gautam Gambhir. His knock of 66 runs of 44 balls in the 125 runs chase proved crucial for KKR. This valiant effort of the Skipper claimed him the Man of the Match award.
Initially Punjab won the toss and elected to bat. Initially Punjab Captain Adam Gillchrist played a solid knock in spite of limping. He scored 40 runs and was aided by Shaun Marsh who scored a valuable 33 runs. The others just made a formal entry to the oval. Finally Punjab could only pile up 124 runs after a loss of seven wickets in the stipulated time. In the bowling department Bret Lee and Narne claimed two wickets each, for the KKR.
On the other hand KKR was quite comfortably placed and they opened the innings with a roar. Opening batsman Gambhir wreaked the initial pace attack of Punjab and jabbed the bowl all over the ground. He achieved his score with seven boundaries and a huge six. He was there till the end and with Kallis closed the match in their favor. Kallis scored 30 runs in the partnership with his skipper.
