It was a basketball match to see as Phoenix Sunnyslope struggled to keep up in the game against Phoenix Thunderbird, and suddenly, during the third quarter of the match, 'rose from the ashes' to clean sweep the game.

Sunnyslope went on a 13-0 run to rise from a 12-point deficit and went on to pull away in the fourth quarter for a 67-50 second-round victory at Glendale Ironwood.

Sunnyslope will next play Phoenix Brophy Prep or Buckeye in Wednesday’s next round. The team that wins tonight will advance to the championship game on Friday night.

“A lot of it starts for us with our defensive intensity,’’ said Sunnyslope coach Ray Portela. “We came out flat, but in the third quarter we started moving into their passing lanes, pressuring them more, feeding off our own energy.’’
