Apple is set to introduce a new MacBook Air M4 this week, a development announced through its social media channels on Monday after months of excitement. This latest version of the laptop is anticipated to come in both 13-inch and 15-inch models, succeeding the MacBook Air M3 that was released just this past March 2024. Speculation suggests that the Cupertino-based firm will include support for its suite of artificial intelligence features, known as Apple Intelligence, in this entry-level laptop.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), CEO Tim Cook shared a teaser video featuring the caption, “There’s something in the AIR,” which points to the forthcoming launch of the new MacBook Air equipped with an M4 processor. The design is likely to remain consistent with the current model, with updates primarily focusing on the new chipset.

The new MacBook Air is rumored to be available in two screen sizes, 13-inch and 15-inch, designated with the codenames J713 and J715. It is expected to retain the Liquid Retina display; however, there is a possibility that Apple will implement its new nano-texture coating, currently found on the MacBook Pro (M4, 2024), in this more affordable model as well. Additionally, the existing Thunderbolt 3 ports could be upgraded to Thunderbolt 4 in the upcoming M4 iteration. Support for Apple Intelligence is anticipated, indicating that the laptop will likely start with a minimum of 8GB of RAM, meeting the requirements to operate the AI features.

The rumor of the chipset upgrade originated from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman back in October 2024, and he recently provided details about the expected launch timeline. Following this release, an M4-powered Mac Studio, reportedly referred to as J575, is expected to be unveiled sometime between March and June. As for the Mac Pro, there has yet to be any announcements regarding an update with an M4 series chip, but more information may surface after the launch of the MacBook Air M4.
