Volkswagen India would recall over one lakh diesel cars next month due to the impact of the global diesel emission scandal, according to a report from The Hindu, which said it was told by highly placed industry expert.
The move from the German carmaker’s Indian unit would affect Polo Cross crossover, Polo hatchback and Vento, Jetta and Passat sedan cars. Meanwhile, Volkswagen said in an official statement that it reveal the details on the diesel emission scandal in India by next month.
The company said, “Since there is a complex combination of several brands, various models, different engine variants and gearboxes as well as different model years that need to be analysed, establishing detailed facts is taking a longer time.”
Representatives of the Volkswagen Group India’s met officials from Ministry of Heavy Industries and Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) to update on the evaluations till now.
Government has asked India’s testing agency, ARAI as to probe incase emission tests were manipulated by Volkswagen in India, like it did in the Europe and the US. It is likely that ARAI would summit the government this month.
