The PCC Chief Botsa Satyanarayana made a good and clever move to silence his opponents and has almost won over the war. The recent report about illegal nexus of liquor shops on benami accounts in the Vijayanagaram district, unearthed by a leading Telugu daily, has been the eye opener for the clever leader. Botsa thanked the daily over the issue and said that since the beginning he had been advocating that he did own liquor shops in Vijayanagaram district and there was nothing new about it. The report stated that the majority shops in the district were owned by Botsa and co.
Once bitten twice shy was the policy adopted by the PCC Chief. He vowed that as the fresh auctions are due in June, neither he nor his family would go for the shops. Looks like that he will diversify into other business, leaving the liquor shops affair. He also ascertained that the shops were got in the right way, unlike exposed in the report. As a PCC Chief his involvement into Liquor Business was questioned by many Congress leaders. This move by the Chief will also silence them. So the morale of the story is Botsa turns Good Samaritan in the liquor issue from June 2012.
But critics felt that the PCC Chief has left some uneven endings on certain issues like:
1. Who was the King Pin in the whole issue, who had collected a monthly percent from the shops in the district?
2. If everything was fair then how come the shops were auctioned at such low rates?
3. Most of the owners were working for menial salaries at his place, how could they garner such huge amounts for the shops?
4. In spite of owning the shops why did they restrict themselves to BPL status?
5. How could one man’s relation get hold of so many shops and why the ACB is yet to knock evidence on the issue?
The whole clout looks mysterious. But we should not question such senior leaders on such issues. India is a country where the public has a very short term memory. And that too after the leader turning into a Good Samaritan it is not right!!! (With inputs from internet: AarKay)
