Old city again turns into a battleground on Sunday. As curfew has been imposed, the parts of the city are under control say officials. Officials further today confirmed that the curfew has been extended to Monday also. On Sunday the trouble started as some furious incidents were reported from the Madannapet and Saidabad areas of the Old City in Hyderabad. Trouble broke out around 7 AM today after locals reportedly found "meat" lying near a religious place in Kurumaguda that "provoked" members of a particular community, police said. Additional forces have been deployed there, a senior police official said.
Examinations centres, where degree and tenth exams are conducted, have been tightened with extra security says DCP Gangadhar. In continuation to the disruption 12 people have been filed with cases says DCP Manishkumar. The injured victims are being treated in various hospitals in the city.
DGP V Dinesh Reddy on Sunday, said the situation at Madannapet and Saidabad police station limits where communal violence erupted in the morning was under control and five persons were injured in the violence. He also appealed to the public not to believe any rumors and act in haste. The security was tightened at all the sensitive areas at Madannapet and Saidabad areas where indefinite curfew was clamped.
Police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the mobs. "Miscreants also pelted stones at buses and set at least two vehicles on fire. Two incidents of stabbing have also been reported," the police official said. "The situation is now under control. We have posted pickets and preventive measures are in place," he added. The RTC authorities suspended operation of city buses to Saidabad and surrounding localities after nearly 15 buses were damaged.
