Swami Nityananda’s appointment as 293rd head of the one of the oldest Saivaite mutt, Madhurai Adheenam is creating furore from several Saivaite mutts in Tamil Nadu.
On Tuesday, the chiefs of 13 important Saivaite mutts, who met at Dharmapuram in Mayiladuthrai, held discussions for the reconsideration of appointment of Swami Nityananda as the Guru of Madhurai Adheenam.
Dharmapuram Adheenam Guru Maha Sannidhanam, Sri Shanmuga Desiga Paramacharya Swamigal presided over the meeting and took decision to urge the present head of Madurai Adheenam, Swami Arunagirinatha Ganamandhasikar to reconsider Swami Nityanandas’s appoint within 10 days.
Ooran Adigal, explained the resolutions passed at the meeting and concluded, “If the Adheenam sticks to his decision, we will be forced to seek legal recourse, besides requesting the intervention of the Tamil Nadu government as this decision by the Madurai Adheenam head is against the norms, tradition and rituals of Saivaite mutts.”
The heads of prominent Saivaite mutts who attended the meeting, included Thiruvavaduthurai Adheenam, Thiruvannamalai-Kundrakudi Adheenam, Suriyanarkoil Adheenam, Thirupanandal Adheenam, Senkol Adheenam, Thuzhavoor Adheenam, Velakurichi Adheenam, Kamakshipuri Adheenam, Ooran Adigal and Chidambaram Mouna Mada Swamigal.
