In yet another heinous crime reported in the country, a young girl was gang-raped by six men and set ablaze in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
A resident of Jesarmau village, the victim suffered third degree burns and is believed to be battling for life at a hospital at Saifai.
During the initial interrogation, the victim alleged that six men including her beau Farhan assaulted her and then set her on flames, revealed Deputy Inspector General RK Chaturvedi.
The officer said, "Efforts are on to nab the culprits.”
The girl was betrothed to Farhan, one of the main accusers. However, the marriage did not solemnize as heavy dowry was demanded, leading to both the families growing hostile.
The girl had called the young man to her house to sort out the matter. However, the boy turned up with five more men and brutally raped her before setting her on blaze.
The girl's family complained that they were being threatened.
