What's with the 'godmen' these days? As more and more cases of self-styled saints involved in sexual controversies grab headlines, common man's faith on these controversial gurus has started to dwindle. The latest one to rouse a ruckus is the saint in white – Asaram Bapu who has been booked for raping a 16-year-old.
Delhi Police lodged a zero FIR under section 376 against the 72-year-old spiritual leader for raping a girl in a hostel in Jodhpur. Investigations are on.
The case is being handled by Joint CP Tejendra Luthra and inspector Pramod Joshi who are probing the case. DCP Alok Kumar may be sent to interrogate the godman, sources say.
The victim's father is a transport agent in Shahjahanpur in UP.
Apparently, the girl lodged a complaint with the Delhi police after Jodhpur and Shahjahanpur police refused to file an FIR. A case was registered on Monday after a senior officer's approval.
“The cops are approaching the case cautiously so as not to risk hurting the religious sentiments of a community,” wrote a news source.
