The race for the post of Arizona governor gets bigger with Mesa Mayor Scott Smith officially being nominated for the post by the Republicans.
Smith filed his nomination on Thursday at the state Capitol. Smith believes that his experience as a business leader and leader of the state's third-largest city makes him a standout contender for the governor's seat.
"Smith is joining a Republican primary election field that already includes two statewide officeholders -- Secretary of State Ken Bennett and Treasurer Doug Ducey. Others seeking the GOP nomination include former Go Daddy legal counsel Christine Jones, state Sen. Al Melvin and former Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas,” writes ABC 15.
The Republican primary winner will be pitted against Democrat Fred DuVal, a former Board of Regents member and a former gubernatorial aide, in the November general election.
