The funeral of detective John Hobbs will take place on Monday at Christ's Church of the Valley in Peoria. To enable the passage of the funeral procession a segment of the Phoenix-area freeway will be closed at midday.

John Hobbs funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Soon after the funeral service, a procession will be taken out at 11.30 AM approximately. So the segment between 75th Avenue and Seventh Street in eastbound Loop 101 freeway in Glendale and Phoenix will remain closed to facilitate the procession.

On March 3, the 43-year-old Phoenix police officer had been shot fatally. He was shot by a suspect, who had also been fatally shot by the authorities. Hobbs had served the Phoenix police for almost 21 years. He was a member of a specialized unit which was activated to arrest dangerous criminals.

As soon as the procession passes the closed segment of the freeway will be reopened, said the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says the closed freeway section will be reopened as soon as possible after the procession has passed.
