Dusherra is a festival that celebrates victory of good over evil. Indians all over the world celebrate this festival with devotion and festivities. Even the Indian community in the United States celebrate Dusherra like their siblings in their motherland.
The Pheonix branch of the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS) in USA organised a Dashami Utsav this year to celebrate the festival.
All Indians were invited to celebrate the HSS Pheonix Vijaya Dashami Utsav 2014.
During the celebration 'yogchaap' was performed by Phoenix Sevikas on the patriotic song 'Janani Janma Bhumi Swarga Se Mahaan Hai'.
The sevikas were adorned in pristine white 'salwar suit', with pink dupattas (scarf). They had a pair of dandia stick with bells as prop for the light dance programme.
'Janma Bhumi Swarga Se Mahaan Hai' song reminded all of their motherland during the festivity. This song, is an iconic creation exhorting the citizens to rise for the sacrifice for the motherland. The words and the music is very inspiring and stimulating.
The performers seemed to be having great fun while moving to the beats of this patriotic song. Even the audience were reminded of their motherland. It was nostalgic for everyone present for the festivity.
Vasant Desai had composed music for this song, which was sung by Manna Dey. 'Janani Janma Bhumi' song is from the film 'Samraat Prithviraj Chauhan' (1959).
The song is a derivation from the famous Sanskrit shloka from our scriptures - "janani janmbhoomisch swargaadapee gariyasi". It means - "The land of my birth is my mother, and it is more eminent and important than swarg (heavens)."
