The inaugural International Yoga Day, has been spearheaded by India to propagate the Indian-origin scientific way to control the mind and body by communicating with the nature. The move proposed by the Indian PM Narendra Modi during his maiden address at the 69th General Assembly session in September, 2014, was voted by 177 countries at the UN.
The much prestigious ceremony would be graced by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and General Assembly President Sam Kutesa. Where, Indian performers will do asanas and the Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar give a lecture to the world to understand what is Yoga?
The global crossroads in the heart of Manhattan, will strengthen the commitment of India and the world body ‘UN’ by broadcasting the celebrations. Several Indian organizations and the associations of NRIs and Indian-American community are actively looking after the arrangements to ensure successful and remarkable celebrations.
Overseas Volunteers for Better India (OVBI) decided to organize Yogathon events across 100 US cities and the campaign was joined by over 70 organisations to promote the special day. Indian PM has advised the special day, which is the longest day in the Northern Hemisphere, to catalyse the spirit of yoga across the globe.
Indian Embassy in the US, has been organizing the Yoga Day celebrations at the prestigious National Mall in Wasthington DC. Indian form of dance, music and yoga will be performed at the event.
Earlier, Times Square has broadcasted the Indian PM Modi’s address at the Madison Square Garden during his visit to the US.
