Arizona has low rate of cancer deaths, cardiovascular deaths and low rate of preventable hospitalizations revealed annual health report published by the United Health Foundations
According to the report, nationally smoking, adolescent immunizations and infant mortality rates have improved in the state. The city ranks 30th in the country for overall state health after shifting down a spot from 2014.
The study says overall, the state is facing the challenges in low per capita public health funding, percentage of children in poverty and low rate of high school graduation, while on the other hands, the rate of cardiovascular death and physical inactivity has been decreased.
The report highlights, since past year, physical inactivity has been decreased 16% from 21.2% of adults which is a health win for the state, but drug deaths increased 13% from 16.0 to 18.1 per 100,000 populations in the past two years. The rate of preventable hospitalizations decreased 22% from 51.4 to 40.1 per 1,000 Medicare beneficiaries in the last two years. In the last decade, children in poverty also increased 35% from 21.1% to 28.5% while, cardiovascular deaths decreased 21% from 273.8 to 216.6 per 100,000 population
The rankings are based on the basis of calculation of various health statistics based on state and national numbers over standard deviations.
