Two persons from Chandler, Arizona hired to make home improvements were arrested after defrauding senior citizens out of thousands of dollars.
According to the reports in August last year, Police focused an investigation on two men 42-year-old Peter Toogood and 44-year-old Alexander Gregg.
Police said these two men targeted senior citizens for repairing their roof tops and other home improvements.
All the victims, they targeted were over 80 years old. One of them would introduce himself as the son of a roofer, who worked in the house several years ago. Then he would get permission to do an inspection of the roof. When he returned back after inspection, he would show photos of roof damage to the victims.
The victim would then allegedly be pressured into making a quick decision about repairs.
Inspections done later would reveal that little or no work was actually done to the roofs and work that was done was subpar.
Police said that these men traveled all over the Valley from Sun City to Scottsdale, Phoenix, Mesa and Leisure World.
Police found money deposits of over $190,00 from August to December last year. They reported that the accused men used a sophisticated process to cash the checks.
Both the accused men have prior convictions and ties to the “Irish Travelers.” It is a group that has been associated with frauds in Arizona and also in other states.
Alexander Gregg and Peter Toogood have been charged with multiple counts of fraudulent schemes.
