Merit-based H1B visa will benefit Indian students: Arizona State University

The revised H1-B visa program proposed by the President Donald Trump’s administration would promote merit and Indian students, which may ultimately be the biggest beneficiaries to the firms.
The opinion came from the professors of the Arizona State University, who felt that strengthening work visa would be benefiting and qualitative, a category where a lot of Indian students fit.
Moninder Holly Singh, a senior director of International Students and Scholars Centre in Arizona University argued that “the whole process will become merit based and that would be advantageous to Indian students.”
Mr. Singh’s views were echoed by Patrick Phelan the assistant dean of graduate programs, Ira A and Tirupalavanam Gopal Ganesh, who is the assistant dean, engineering education.
Students from India have evolved over the past one and half decade and are now savvy enough to adopt changes in whatever form, they felt.
After reports showed that there was a drastic drop 40% in applications from Indians reflecting their apprehension of studying in the United States, the University professors said that the fall of applications to Arizona University.
In fact, as on date, applications from Indian students have increased at ASU,” Prof. Patrick Phelan said, indicating that good universities that focus on quality and innovation would continue to attract the best talent.
On the other hand, professor Ganesh wanted three to four years to analyze the real impact of the change
Mr. Singh stated that the fall in applications could not be just related to the current situation in the United States, but also the fact that India has also seen tremendous changes over the past decade.
Mr. Singh added that a lot of good students complete their graduation in India, work for some time there, and then look towards universities in the United States.
Students no longer blindly land at universities that are ready to give I-20s (admission letter).
