The US News, yesterday released its list of the Best Public High Schools in the country and Arizona schools made into the list.
BASIS Scottsdale topped the list, followed by BASIS Tucson North and BASIS Oro Valley. BASIS Peoria and BASIS Chandler also ranked in the top 10. The BASIS schools are a charter schools in Arizona, Texas and Washington D.C.
The US News considers several factors to determine the schools’ ranking, including enrollment, graduation rates, diversity, participation in free and reduced-price lunch programs, and the results of state assessments and Advanced Placement exams.
But, this year the US News had changed the way it factors Advanced Placement exams to better reflect schools that are preparing students for college. The new measures analyze the schools, where students participate and pass a variety of college level courses and exams.
U.S. News awards gold to the top level of college readiness. The highest percentage of eligible schools that received gold were in Maryland, Florida and California.
Arizona Governor, Dough Ducey’s office released a statement on Tuesday: “Arizona couldn’t be prouder of the teachers, students, and communities who made this happen. Governor Ducey has visited countless classrooms and he’s seen first-hand the work Arizona teachers and principals are doing to ensure kids receive a high-quality education.”
