In the wake of Pulwama terror attack that killed over 40 Central Reserve Police Force personnel, an Indian American man has raised $1.05 million via Facebook fundraiser to donate to families of killed soldiers.

In much good news, the social media giant has decided to waive its customary transaction fee.

The 26-year-old Viveik Patel’s fundraiser attracted scores of Indian Americans, many of whom were unable to donate directly through the official “Bharat Ke Veer” account. Almost around 26,000 people donated to help the victim’s family through fundraiser set up by Viveik Patel.

Patel credited the Indian consulate in New York for noticing his efforts and getting involved. “Once the consulate got involved, things became more transparent and authentic for many people who were willing to donate but could have been wary about how the money would eventually reach the affected,” he said as cited by American Bazaar.

The fundraiser ended on February 28. Patel told to American Bazaar that he expects the money to reach victims’ families in less than three weeks.
