Festival of Kites – Pongal & Sankranti

AzGoshala is celebrating Pongal, on Sunday, Jan 12th 2020 at Crossroads Park in Gilbert, which is a Harvest Festival and Thanksgiving, honoring farmers and cows. The meaning of the word Pongal is ‘Boiling Over’, as it celebrates the abundant crops in the field. The Sun God is worshiped to seek blessings for an abundant harvest.

One day, is dedicated to worshiping the farm animals, particularly cows and bulls -- and they're decorated for the occasion! Most farmers still use bulls, bullock carts, and traditional implements for plowing.  Goshala youth club is performing a skit, to convey the importance of cow and bull protection.

Please join us in this fun filled free entry event, that includes rangoli and folk fancy dress competitions, cultural programs, delicious food, clothing, jewelry, henna, face painting and lots of games and fun along with kite flying!  Please feel free to contact us to get more info regarding the event or would like to join our youth and adult volunteer teams.
