He said he is still part of the profession by teaching St students at the Georgetown law school. He said after his divorce he was worried about how he would make it work and that’s when something unexpected happened. Doug said, " A happy client of mine offered to set me up on a blind date," which is where Doug ended up with Kamala Harris's phone number. He added, "I dialled her at 8:30 AM to her voice mail and I just started, Hey it's Doug, I am going to an early meeting and after that, I hung up. Kamala has saved the voicemail and plays it on every anniversary. I was waiting at the apartment to do some work and was in the kitchen, I was having my lunch, which is not a good sign for a busy lawyer. And that was when she called me back. We talked for an hour, we laughed and now I love that laugh. It was that Saturday when I picked her up. I just fell in love with her very fast. She finds joy in pursuing justice. She stands up to bullies just like my parents taught me to. She likes to see people good and hates to see when they are treated unfairly. He said her empathy is her strength".
He concluded by saying, "Kamala was exactly the right person for me at an important moment in my life. And at this moment in our nation's history, she is exactly the right president"
