Menthol smokes are a favorite with the new-age addicts! But do you know, smoking these flavored cigarettes like menthol and mint can expose you to a greater, graver health risk than smoking the normal ones.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have revealed: "While there is little evidence to suggest that menthol cigarettes are more or less toxic or contribute to more disease risk to the user than non-menthol cigarettes, adequate data suggest that menthol use is likely associated with increased smoking initiation by youth and young adults."
Furthermore, menthol and mint smokers have higher nicotine dependence and are less likely to quit smoking.
Over 400,000 people die in the US every year owing to tobacco use.
Almost 30 percent of all adult and more than 40 percent of all young smokers apparently smoke menthol cigarettes.
"Menthol cigarettes raise critical public health questions," FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg said in a statement.
