What happens when you take your dog out for a yoga? Well, you get a 'doga'!

Treadmill and cross-training sessions are a passe now! Canine yoga is the latest fitness craze in the US and people and pet lovers are going gaga over it.

Doga, as this practice is gaining popularity as (a portmanteau of 'dog' and 'yoga'), is all about sharing your mat with your mutt.

Both holistic and health experts are of the opinion that doing yoga with an enthusiastic, energetic dog can motivate you like nothing else, and help you burn off more calories than normal. But the benefits don't just end there. It's also one of the better ways to bond with your pooch as well as give it a much needed exercise.

Researchers at the University of Missouri-Columbia “discovered that people who walked their dogs increased their speed by 28 per cent over 12 weeks, compared to just four per cent when strolling with a human companion.”

Doga involves breathing, meditating and stretching together with your dog. It's believed that if you watch your dog stretch, you will be naturally motivated to stretch out like it. And the good part is all the exercises in doga are tailor-made for you and your canine.

So if you are looking to get the best out of your yoga, tag your canine friend along!
