Former champions Gujarat Titans are still hoping for a miracle to reach the playoffs of the 2024 Indian Premier League season. The Shubman Gill-led GT team, champions of the 2022 edition of the cash-rich league, were scheduled to host two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders. With the rain gods making their presence felt at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the traditional coin toss of the IPL 2024 match between GT and KKR on Monday was postponed due to inclement weather. Due to rain in Ahmedabad, GT dropped out of this season's playoff race. The GT team can only get 14 points in the league phase. GT's run rate was an abysmal -1.063 and Shubman's team was on the verge of early exit from the IPL 2024 playoffs ahead of the game against KKR. The 63rd match between Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders ended in defeat with Shubman and others becoming the third team to be eliminated from the IPL 2024 playoffs.
Both teams (GT and KKR) shared a point each after the match was abandoned at the world's largest cricket stadium. Shreyas Iyer's KKR team has already booked its ticket for the playoffs of this season's lucrative league. Two-time champions KKR have 18 points and are two points behind second-placed Rajasthan Royals. Sanju Samson's RR team still needs to win games to secure a spot in the playoffs. Defending champions CSK are in third place with 14 points after 14 games. After the five-time champions, Sunrisers Hyderabad are in fourth place in the points table with 14 points. Royal Challengers Bangalore are in fifth place with 12 points from 14 games. Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants are tied with RCB in the IPL 2024 standings. But KL Rahul's team has a fight ahead of them. GT Shubman's team finished eighth with 11 points. A win against KKR will bring GT on par with RCB, LSG and DC in the points table. With a run rate of -1.063, GT found it tough to fight for a spot in the playoffs against RCB, LSG, CSK, DC and CSK.
