After having the whole media cram over the hottest sensation IPL, the other sports are getting lesser attention; hence we bring forth Snooker achievements of Team India.
India’s ace snooker champ Aditya Mehta rings in his entry with a second consecutive win at the 28th Asian Snooker Championships being held at the Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation's gym in Doha, on Sunday. Aditya takes on his opponent Mubarak Alwais of Kuwait with ease and marks a 4-0 win. In the earlier match on Saturday the young pro from India defeated Pakistan's National Champ Muhammad Asif, 4-2. Compared to the Pak encounter the Kuwaiti match was fought a bit effortlessly by Aditya.
Both the matches tested Aditya much; hearing him in his own words would express the pro’s fight. "It's a good confidence booster for me as these are one of the toughest matches of the tournament. Getting these matches out of the way early in the tournament would improve my chances as the competition progresses," said Aditya.
Initial victory must give the necessary boost to the young pro, as he needs to sustain another four such encounters before he is at home with the cup. In his next crucial encounter Aditya will face Karam Fatima of Syria, today (Monday). Only two of the seven players will qualify into the last 16 after which it gets into a knock-out format
The tournament features 52 of the continent's best cueists, representing 26 countries. Top participants come from India, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Taipei, the UAE and Pakistan. The remaining countries are Afghanistan, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Korea, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mongolia, Pakistan, Palestine, hosts Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Syria, the Philippines and Bahrain. The winner of the Asian Championship gets automatic qualification for the Professional Snooker Tour 2012-13 seasons. (With inputs from internet- AarKay)
