The Diamondbacks have roped in pitching expert Dave Duncan as a pitching consultant/special assistant to the GM.
Apparently, the team wanted Duncan to be their pitching coach. He, however, insisted on being a special consultant to the replacement of Charles Nagy. Nagy was dropped from his post after the conclusion of the 2013 season.
Duncan, 68, kicked off his Major League coaching career in 1978 with the Cleveland Indians. Quite interestingly, he was one of baseball's top pitching coaches during his stints with the Chicago White Sox (1983-1986), Oakland A's (1986-1995) and St. Louis Cardinals (1996-2011).
Duncan took a break from the Cardinals in early 2012 to be beside his ailing wife, Jeanine, who passed away this June.
