A healthy breakfast goes a long way in making your day more productive. Provides the energy and nutrients you need to stay focused, energized and satisfied. However, not all breakfast foods are created equal. Nutritionist Deepshika Jain recently shared a video highlighting the 'worst foods' to avoid in your morning meal and explains why they are not the best for your health.
Fruit Juices or Smoothies: Fruit juices may seem like a healthier option than sugary sodas or sweet tea, but they are not the best option. Fruit juices and smoothies contain a lot of sugar and little fiber, so blood sugar levels rise first thing in the morning. You will feel hungry during the day. Instead, try eating whole fruits to reap the benefits of natural fiber.
Tea or Coffee: Pairing tea or coffee with breakfast may seem like a necessary morning ritual, but Deepseekha warns against it. Drinking tea or coffee with breakfast can reduce the absorption of essential nutrients such as iron, zinc and calcium, leading to deficiencies over time. Therefore, it is best to enjoy caffeine after a meal, not with it.
Flavored yogurt: Often sold as a healthy snack or breakfast option, it usually contains sugar or artificial sweeteners. “It increases your hunger and adds calories to your breakfast choices,” says Deepshika. Add fresh fruit and nuts to unsweetened plain yogurt for a filling meal.
Granola: Making granola in the morning may seem like a quick and easy option, but it often lacks the nutrients our bodies need to provide energy throughout the day. It is low in protein, fiber and fat, which can lead to feelings of hunger and unstable blood sugar levels. It is better to add oatmeal or eggs to your breakfast plate, which are rich in protein and fiber.
