Mail sorting operations in Tucson will soon cease to exist in the facility. The U.S. Postal Service said that the sorting facility will shut down by next year. This will lead to loss of over 200 potential jobs.
In April 2015, the work done at the Tucson mail facility will be absorbed by a Phoenix facility.
The postal agency has to find ways to bring efficiecy in its service due to declining revenue, said Peter Hass, a spokesman for the Postal Service's Tucson office.
Hass said the Postal Service will try and relocate the 259 workers employed at the Tuscan facility internally.
Since February 2013, the Postal Service had stopped processing mail that originated in Tucson. However the Tucson facility was still taking care of incoming mails and packaging.
Tucson will be one of 82 facilities across the country which will be consolidated.
