Can abortion be reversible?
Arizona may become first state to pass a law stating the doctors who conduct drug induced abortions to tell women that procedure may be reversible; a claim which doctor say is incorrect.
The law is part of an agreement signed by Gov. Doug Ducey, a Republican which is meant to avoid plans offered in Arizona to go ahead with abortion.
As per the new law, the doctor must explain to woman about early stage of drug induced abortion along with the possibilities of reversing it.
Most doctors have criticized the law as the science behind it is erroneous or unproven.
Jody Liggett, the public policy director of Planned Parenthood has called the new decree “dangerous and quite simply outrageous.” She said: “Arizona women trust their physicians. Extreme policy makers are preying on this trust in order to further bad medicine, all in the name of politics, and not science.”
The procedures of drug-induced abortion involves, a woman with less than seven weeks of pregnancy is given mifepristone, followed by administration of misoprostol drug two days later.
The policy makers have put forward strong statement to implement this law.
“It’s tragic when a woman makes a decision to have an abortion without knowing all the facts,” said Cathi Herrod, president of the Center for Arizona Policy.
“We know children have been born. We know women have been spared the heartache of abortion. There’s no downside to this. Where’s the harm in informing a woman that it could be reversible?”
