United States experienced the deadliest day on March 30, 2020, taking the coronavirus death toll over 3000, leaving people in a constant state of panic.
The New York city, which has been the worst hit with the coronavirus pandemic in the US, finally saw a light of hope with the 1000 bed US Navy hospital that could be used for the treatment of the hospitalised patients.
The statistics also suggest that the number of infected cases in the US has crossed 163, 000 and the death toll is over 3000 as of Monday.
Both the residents of New York and New Jersey lined the shores of the Hudson River to further appraise the efforts by the US Navy ship Comfort, which is a converted oil tanker that has been painted with a red cross to make it available for the treatment of the hospitalised patients.
The US Navy Ship, Comfort has been made available for the treatment of the non-coronavirus patients who are in critical care and are in need of surgeries. This initiative has been taken to free the hospitals for tackling the Covid-19 cases without any obstructions.
The New York City mayor, Bill de Blasio suggested saying, “It’s a wartime atmosphere and we all have to pull up together.”
The hospitals in the New York city has been overrun by the infected Covid-19 patients, making it difficult for the doctors to keep up with the already hospitalised patients. They state has also appealed for volunteer healthcare workers to help fight this battle.
Addressing the situation, a nurse from Virtua Memorial Hospital, Krystal Horchuck stated saying, “We can’t take of you if we can’t take care of ourselves. I think a lot of us have accepted the fact that we are probably going to get this. It’s just that we want to survive. We’re all being exposed to it at some point.”
In current stat reports, United States has the maximum number of confirmed cases across the world, a number that is likely going to increase a lot more, if the reports and analysis from Dr. Anthony Fauci is to be considered.
In one of the White House briefing, President Donald Trump stated saying that over a million Americans have been tested for the coronavirus, which accounts for less than 3% of the population.
Another state, after New York, that has been hit hard is California, which is under a complete lockdown to contain the spread as much as possible at this point. The Governor of California, Gavin Newsom said that the Covid-19 hospitalisations have doubled in the past four days.
Newsom has also been reported that the number of admitted ICU patients have been tripled as well.
Aside from that, one of the steps of mitigation that is under work is the preparation of a 68 beds hospital in Manhattan to ease the pressure of the hospitalisations in New York. This makeshift facility has been prepared with collaborative efforts from Mount Sinai Health System and non-profit organization Samaritan’s Purse. This is going to take in patients from Tuesday.
While the experts and researchers believe that the death toll in the United States could very well peak anywhere between 100,000 to 200,000, the government is working through ways to help prevent that from happening.
