Recall Of 2.24 Lakh Vehicles In India By Honda Cars Over Faulty AirbagsBusiness News

Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) is recalling nearly 2.24 lakh units of its premium sports utility vehicles in order to replace defective airbag inflators. It is the largest such exercise in India. Those included in the recall are sedans Civic, hatchback Jazz, CR-V and City, manufactured between 2003 and 2012.

The recall is a part of parent Honda's global initiative to replace the faulty airbags. According to a statement from the company, HCIL will replace 2,23,578 vehicles’ airbag inflators of previous generations of City, CR-V, Civic and Jazz voluntarily.

Vehicles covered under the exercise

13,073 units of CR-V manufactured between 2004-11;

54,290 units of Civic sedan manufactured between 2003-2012;

1,40,508 units of sedan City manufactured between 2007 and 2012;

15,707 units of hatchback Jazz manufactured between 2009 and 2011.

HCIL said, "The replacement would be carried out free of cost at HCIL dealerships across India in a phased manner, starting October 12, 2015 and the company will communicate with customers directly.”

Honda had announced recall of more than two million units across the globe to substitute faulty airbags provided by Takata Corp, its supplier.
