Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Francois Hollande are to launch a game changing international solar alliance, as an effort to bring affordable and clean solar energy to all.
According to a statement from Indian government earlier, more than 100 solar-rich countries are in the tropics with potential to be members of the the International Solar Alliance and to develop clean and affordable solar energy.
"Solar energy is a practical and efficient way to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions," the statement said.
In the context of the failure of the 2009 Copenhagen summit, which was the earlier attempt to reach the goal of climate deal, the weight is placed by the United Nations on individual governments’ efforts as on an overarching U.N. agreement.
Over 180 nations submitted national action plans.
These are not sufficient to achieve ‘the limiting global warming’ goal to 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit).
According to cap scientists, it is necessary to prevent the most devastating consequences of global warming.
The national plan of India focuses on solar. The country says, it is expected to grow significantly. It aim is to reach capacity of 100 gigawatts by 2022, to be scaled up further in the future. Tata Power is one of the firms investing heavily in solar as a reliable source with potential to deliver power to some of India's poorest people.
