A 25-year-old woman, Gabriella Marie Dolore Orona Hardee is accused of shooting her boyfriend in the face while messing around with his AK-47 at a Phoenix motel. She was arrested on suspicion of negligent homicide and was being held in a Maricopa County jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond.

Phoenix police said that Soto Leon was lying on his back next to the rifle when Hardee got on the bed, straddled him and picked up the firearm. Holding the weapon with both hands, "she pointed the gun at a downward angle that was directly at Rosario's head," according to a police statement. "She had her finger on the trigger and believed that (if) she didn't squeeze the trigger, it would not discharge."

But it did discharge, shooting Soto Leon in the face. Police said in court that the killing was accidental, a result of Hardee’s "carelessness" in operating the AK-47.
