The Phoenix police and fire officials says a 6-year-old boy was killed and three other children and an adult injured in a collision in the city.
According to the Phoenix police, they arrested the man they believe caused the crash while possibly impaired. His name was not immediately released.
Police said that, the man, who was driving a blue Dodge pickup, crashed into a Ford Ranger at the intersection of 40th Street and Broadway Road Sunday around 10:30 a.m.
When the Ford was hit by the Dodge, the 6-year-old boy, who had been sitting in the bed of the truck along with two other children, was thrown from the vehicle, Lewis said. There were two adults and one other child seated in the Ford Ranger.
A Phoenix police spokesman,Vince Lewis, said that, the 6-year-old was taken to a hospital in extremely critical condition where he later died.
Capt. Aaron Ernsberger, a Phoenix Fire Department spokesman, said that, the other children and adult were taken to level-one trauma centers in serious condition. Further details were not immediately available.
Lewis added that, the driver of the Dodge pickup truck, who showed signs of impairment, was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and assault in connection with the accident.
Brenda Molina said that, "I was in shock right after I was hit." "I turned to make sure my son was OK. We both got out of the car, and right when I got out of the car, I saw two little children out on the curb, one just bleeding and crying. The other boy was against the curb with his neck twisted."
Molina said she and her son immediately went to help the two children. Bystanders jumped in to help the people trapped in the car, she said.
