Hurricane Harvey has created a havoc in Texas. When rain stops and situation gets in control, actual hard work will begin. Harvay’s torrential rains, devastating winds and wide spread flooding has so far cost 39 lives, it caused around 1 million people to evacuate their homes and caused severe damages making itself one of the costliest storm in U.S history.
People are helping these survivors in every way possible from collecting necessities to gathering funds, help is also coming from many states across U.S. Top companies came forward to help Texas in its grief. Arizona National Guards also sent crew to Texas. Black hawks and a smaller search and a rescue aircraft left for Texas on Saturday.
“We have a good group of people that are well trained”, “We just came off from deployment, so all of this stuff is fresh in our minds, so we are ready to do it”,Sgt. Andrew Shimoli said.
Sgt. Andrew Shimoli and 29 other members of Arizona National Guard are ready to leave the Papago Park Military Reservation, beginning a three day road trip to the hardest hit areas of Texas.
“It’s sad, its sad to see people lose their homes, lose their childhood, but we’re trying to go there and help as much as they can”, said Christopher Morales.
The jobs they’ll face includes fixing mechanical issues that may arise during recovery and aid missions taking place right now. More than dozen Arizona soldiers are already there, although they don’t need maintenance yet, crews want to be available at a moments notice.
National Guards say that these missions are hard but inspiring, and they’re what make us proud to serve our country and proud to help those in a time that they need it most.
“This is the reason that we joined the National Guard”, “We are citizen soldiers”, said Sgt. Shimoli said. They are planning to stay longer to help the survivor.
